The Down Syndrome Association of Qld offers a range of in-house training sessions for member schools and organisations. Listed below are our most popular sessions, however we can cover a number of other topics in order to meet your training needs.

Understanding Down Syndrome

3 hours - up to 50 participants

This session aims to increase participants’ understanding of what Down syndrome is, the characteristics associated with it and the implications of these characteristics. There is a strong focus on practical strategies for supporting people with Down syndrome in a range of contexts.

Down Syndrome in an Educational Context - general presentation

1 hour - all staff

This session provides an overview of what Down syndrome is and it’s implications in an educational context. A range of practical strategies are provided to maximise outcomes for learners with Down syndrome.

Teaching Reading - an Introduction to Reading Our Way

2 hours - up to 20 participants

This session introduces strategies and activites for teaching reading based on the latest research into teaching reading to students with Down syndrome. It includes an overview of the Reading Our Way program - a program designed specifically for teaching reading to students with Down syndrome and other visual learners.
