new parents and early years
We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate you on the birth of your child and welcome them to the world.
In receiving the news that your child has Down syndrome, it is to be expected that you will experience a wide array of emotions. It may be of some comfort for you to know that others have felt the same and you are not alone. Be kind to yourself through this time and talk about your feelings.
Down Syndrome Queensland provides New Parent Guides compiled by parents and professionals that aim to provide you and your family with supportive, honest and up to date information that will answer some of the questions that you may have.
At any time, if you would like to speak to someone in person, we can arrange for a Parent Support Volunteer or our Family Support Officer to come and visit you at hospital. Alternatively, if you prefer, arrangements can also be made for someone to visit once you are home or to talk on the phone.
