Our CEO, Darryl Steff will be heading north next month to join the fourth year of the Kubota Australia and Casalis Down Syndrome Awareness Drive.
Here is the story behind the Kubota Australia & Casali’s Down Syndrome Awareness Drive and also some history about the event. If you would like to donate to support this event, please click here and use the reference Casalis
Raising awareness for Down Syndrome is a cause close to Casali’s Manager Alex Arena’s heart. His eldest Grandson Milan was diagnosed with Down Syndrome 3 days after he was born in 2012. This event gives Alex the opportunity to raise awareness and educate people about Down Syndrome as well as raise funds for a very worthy charity.
In 2015 the first ever Casali’s Down Syndrome Awareness drive was held on the 3rd & 4th of October. 34 people participated in 13 RTVs and five 4WDs. No one really knew what to expect but everyone had an awesome time and it was an amazing success. We even had a marriage proposal! Over $10,500 was donated to The Down Syndrome Association of Qld.
Our 2016 event on the 1st & 2nd of October had an ever larger amount of people wanting to participate but unfortunately our dates clashed with several other local events happening on the same weekend and a lot of people were unable to attend. Even Milan couldn’t make it this year, he had to stay home and wait for his new little brother to arrive. We had 21 people participate in 10 RTVS and one 4WD. $6,500 was donated to The Down Syndrome Association of Qld and the Mareeba Friends of the Hospital Foundation.
In 2017 Kubota Australia came on board as a major sponsor. The date of our event was brought forward and this was the first year that it was not held over the October long weekend. 51 people participated in 20 RTVs, three 4WDs and for the first time 1 Quad. 2 of our participants travelled over 1400kms from Childers. Each year they had really wanted to be involved in our drive and they were so excited to finally be able to attend! Over $6,800 was donated to The Down Syndrome Association of Qld.
Our 2018 event will be held on the 15th & 16th of September and this year we will be staying at Bloomfield Beach Camp. Kubota Australia is again providing sponsorship and we are very excited to have the CEO of Down Syndrome Qld Darryl Steff and his son join us on the drive. Each year the continued generosity shown by our local community is overwhelming. We hope that you can help us make 2018 our most successful event yet!
As our event has grown each year so has Milan. Since 2015 he has ridden a bike and started walking. He still attends school once a week in Cairns and in 2018 he started Kindy. Recently Milan has started practicing how to feed himself and of course he still loves riding on the Kubota RTV at home or at Nonno Alex’s. #downsyndromeawareness #loosethelabel
