DSQ Club - Challenge Weekend

THIS CAMP IS BOOKED OUT.

Challenge Weekend is a personal development weekend for people with Down syndrome aged 16 and over. Held twice a year at the Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast Recreation Centres, participants ('Challengers') are allocated to small groups captained by a volunteer team leader who provides peer support for the duration of the weekend. The Challenge Weekend is currently held from 5pm Friday to 3pm Sunday. 

The aim of Challenge Weekend is to try new things and be pushed outside your comfort zone in a safe, supportive and encouraging environment. We plan activities that are safe, fun and engaging; and provide opportunities to learn new skills and be more independent. Click here to find out more

There are a number of different challenges that participants partake in over the weekend, which include: 

  • Physical challenges - Such as canoeing, rock climbing and the giant swing

  • Social challenges - Such as team games and ball sports

  • Emotional challenges - Such as reflection and personal development workshops

We also incorporate some of the most popular activities from past events such as the talent show, trivia, disco night and more! 

Applications are open to anyone aged 16 and over who has Down syndrome.

  • What is the difference between plan management and support co-ordination?

Registrations for the Housing Forums will close very soon, so make sure to not miss out on this opportunity to get some great information and ask any questions!

 We will have information on offer about:

·        What housing options are available (e.g. accommodation being offered by service providers, private rental arrangements, buying your own house, building at the back of the family home)

·        Supports that are available to allow the person to live independently (e.g. through the NDIS and other means)

 

We will also allocate some time at the end of the session where the speakers can answer any specific questions you may have.
